Our educational collaborations in the schools have been instrumental in shaping the development of EGD and the transition thereof. CAD4ALL Institute of Applied Architecture 2023 Schools Stem Design Competition brief for Grade 12 entries was inspired by the heartening film Harnessing the Wind. A tale of discovery and pushing boundaries with self-sufficiency.
Grade 12’s will be divided into teams within their respective school and tasked to research a topic, issue a design proposal, complete a 3D printmaker cut and construct an actual model of the researched topic. The judging criteria will be based on if the model will is able to work and function in reality, the model will be assessed on design and research, the mechanical and operational application of the model, as well as the final product and overall appeal.
Entries for the 2023 STEM competition will be completed online, and communication will be shared in December 2022 on the specifics.
The December 2022 instruction allows schools and learners ample time over the festive break to decide if they are keen in entering the 2023 STEM Challenge.
The 2022 design challenge was only based on 1 assessment component, which was 2D CAD training, next year, we will be categorizing the competition into grades as per the curriculum offered in the schools. The competition needs to synchronize in that the curriculum needs to match the outcome of the competition for the effective application of knowledge.
CAD4ALL feels that in order to stimulate innovation, we need to raise the bar progressively by increasing the challenge platform incorporating STEM literacy to the Grade 12’s next year as industry role players, partners and sponsors will be fixated on the execution.
Within this exciting brief, the learning outcome is going to be phenomenal and exciting as it finds solutions to society’s demands for new advancements. The entered school will select a team of dedicated and conscientious Grade 12 learners to participate in the challenge and strengthen the STEM and design literacy of the education pipeline.
