CAD4ALL ZEITZ MOCAA EXCURSION!

The aim of CAD4ALL having excursions to institutions such as the Zeitz is not purely aimed at the Art Exhibitions, but rather on the magnitude and inner-workings of the building which houses the museum and Royal Portfolio Silo Hotel.

Students were allowed to browse the exhibitions, currently exhibiting the work of William Kentridge with the tagline “Why Should I Hesitate: Putting Drawings to Work”, but were briefed beforehand on what to specifically focus on in regard to the architecture.

In this case, the first years were to focus primarily on communication throughout the building as part of their communications module – how various languages, signs, and mediums are used to guide us through the museum.

The second year’s focus was on the various floors of the building, how the Silos were converted to house various levels through which the public can move freely, as well as on higher levels of the hotel actually inhabit. The focus was also pointed at the lifts and HVAC systems in the building.

Our students are always delighted to pay a visit to the museum and enjoy marveling at the wonder of the industrial conversion that took place – a big highlight always being seeing who is brave enough to stand on the glass roof and look straight down the basement levels!

We thank Zeitz Mocaa for allowing institutions such as ours to be able to visit the museum, and are very grateful that we could be one of the last groups to attend before the closure effective from yesterday in response to the current pandemic.
