The Architectural Technology National Certificate students of 2023 were tasked with the following for one of their practical briefs:
The Durbanville Kinderhuis has been home to troubled and disadvantaged children for a long time. Most of the children have not received proper education in their previous home lives.

Therefore, the NC’s are tasked with designing a stimulating play environment. Redesigning the space to make it engaging, interesting and most importantly, entertaining.
They also need to develop a solution to the dangerous water canal. Not only does it overflow when it rains, but the depth is quite low, and children could easily fall in and injure themselves.
There end goal is not to design a building, but rather a outdoor play area for the children. The water canal falls apart of this space and must be handled accordingly.
We look forward to seeing how this project progresses!
